The Museum of Ceramic Art/New
York intends to become a major cultural institution devoted
to the representation and study of ceramics—its history, evolution,
and worldwide significance.
MOCA/NY’s
vision is that of a world-class facility devoted to ceramic art in a
world-class city: New York. New York is the ideal urban center where
a variety of people from all backgrounds and walks of life—and
the many tourists who visit—can see, understand, and appreciate
ceramic art. We will exhibit the best of historical ceramics while calling
attention to emerging artists and helping to foster viable careers for
young people.
There
are now over 40 museums world-wide devoted exclusively to the ceramic
arts, but none in New York City. While a number of New York City institutions
do exhibit and host programs about ceramics as part of their wider missions,
the field would be well-served by having an institution dedicated solely
to clay in New York.
